Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Mariano Rajoy, Prime Minister of Spain

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Mariano Rajoy, Prime Minister of Spain. On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the adoption of Security Council Resolution 1325, the Secretary-General thanked Spain for championing the women, peace and security agenda.

The Secretary-General and the Prime Minister exchanged views on the other priorities for Spain’s Presidency of the Security Council, including counter-terrorism and the prevention of violent extremism. They shared their concern with the humanitarian tragedies unfolding in Syria and Yemen, emphasising the urgency to resolve these conflicts, and discussed the growing challenge of migrant and refugee flows towards Europe. The Secretary-General thanked Spain for its support for the UN’s efforts in Libya.
