The Secretary-General met today, 1 December 2010, with H.E. Mr. Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of the Netherlands, on the margins of the OSCE Summit in Astana.

The Secretary-General congratulated Mr. Rutte on his appointment as the new Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. He also thanked the Netherlands for its strong support for the United Nations, not least in helping the United Nations mission in Afghanistan, UNAMA, to acquire secure accommodation and workspace for its staff in Kabul.

The Secretary-General and the Prime Minister also discussed UN-OSCE cooperation, Afghanistan, Sudan, Darfur, climate change and food security.
