Remarks to the Republic of Cameroon National Assembly

Your Excellency, President Biya,
Excellencies,
Distinguished guest and colleagues,

Thank you for your warm welcome, and for the productive meetings we have had on a wide range of topics.

Wherever I go in the world, I also try to visit lawmakers. I seek out the Parliaments of the world.

Parliaments make the laws. They express the diversity of any nation.

That diversity is especially evident here in Cameroon…“Africa in miniature”…thanks to your rich ethnic, linguistic, geographical and religious diversity.

Opening remarks at press encounter following address to Parliament of the Republic of Malawi

Good afternoon again ladies and gentlemen,

I just had the honour to be the first guest to address the newly built Parliament. This Parliament is magnificent and a fitting monument to a modern democracy.

I was particularly pleased to see that the proportion of women representatives is growing. Women are the backbone of any society. As we know, the backbone starts at the head.

My speech to parliament focused on Africa's development challenges, in particular, the Millennium Development Goals.
