The Secretary-General condemns the brutal killings of three humanitarian workers from Médecins Sans Frontières in Kismayo, Somalia, in an incident that reportedly also claimed the life of a Somali journalist. He offers his deep condolences to their families.

He reminds the Government of its obligation to ensure the safety and security of humanitarian workers operating in Somalia and demands a thorough investigation by the authorities.

The Secretary-General is also deeply concerned about the security of civilians and aid workers in Somalia and reminds all parties in the country that they have a responsibility under international law to protect them at all times.
