The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Paul Biya, President of the Republic of Cameroon.

They discussed the latest political developments in the country as well as regional issues, including Boko Haram, the situation in the Central African Republic and piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.

The Secretary-General commended Cameroon for its efforts to combat Boko Haram, while reiterating the need for any military response to be in strict compliance with international humanitarian, human rights and refugee law

The Secretary-General encouraged Cameroon to urge regional partners to swiftly convene the long-planned joint ECOWAS and ECCAS Summit on Boko Haram to agree on a unified regional response to the threat posed by the group.
