Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Zhang Gaoli, Special Envoy of President and Vice Premier of China

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Zhang Gaoli, Vice Premier of China. The Secretary-General welcomed Mr. Zhang as the special envoy of President Xi Jinping attending the signing ceremony of the Paris Agreement on climate change. The Secretary-General commended China’s leadership in the climate change negotiations, and expressed his hope for the early entry into force of the Paris Agreement. The Secretary-General expressed appreciation for China’s strong partnership with the United Nations, especially in promoting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
