Readouts | Ban Ki-moon, Former Secretary-General

The Secretary-General met His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan on the sidelines of the Syria Donors Conference in London.

The King and the Secretary-General discussed the Syria crisis. The Secretary-General, and his Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura, briefed the King on the Syrian talks that had been held in Geneva.

The Secretary-General thanked the King and the people of Jordan for the tremendous support they have been giving to the Syrians who have found a safe refuge in Jordan.

The Secretary-General said he was committed to mobilizing support for Jordan and the other countries in the region who are hosting the millions of Syrian refugees.

They also discussed new financing facilities being put forward by the World Bank to address the long-term needs of Jordan and other neighbouring countries.

The Secretary-General and the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) also thanked Jordan for the important joint effort made to ensure that Palestinian refugee children in Jordan were able to return to school last year, despite the serious financial pressures experienced by UNRWA.
