The Secretary-General met with H.E. Ms. Retno Marsudi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

The Secretary-General thanked the Foreign Minister for Indonesia’s significant contribution to UN Peacekeeping, including Indonesia’s co-hosting of the Leaders’ Summit on Peacekeeping, and welcomed Indonesia’s plan to contribute 4,000 peacekeeping personnel by 2019.

They discussed preventing violent extremism in regional and global contexts, in relation to the forthcoming Secretary-General’s Global Plan of Action that will be presented to the General Assembly. On the issue of irregular migration in Southeast Asia, the Secretary-General thanked Indonesia for allowing the disembarkation of refugees and migrants in May and urged Indonesia to work closely with regional partners and the UN to identify appropriate solutions, including through the proposed establishment of a Joint Task Force.

They also discussed the issue of Syria and the need to expand the political space for dialogue.
