Read-out of the Secretary-Generalâ??s meeting with H.E. Mr. Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Secretary General of NATO

The Secretary-General met today, 20 September 2011, with H.E. Mr. Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Secretary General of NATO. They discussed recent developments in Libya, especially cooperation between NATO and the UN in respect of their engagements in the country. The Secretary-General noted the reassurances of Mr. Rasmussen that NATO had taken great care to avoid any civilian casualties.

The Secretary-General and Mr. Rasmussen also discussed the transition in Afghanistan, and took note of positive developments in regard to the handover of security responsibilities from the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to Afghan national forces.
