Readout of the Secretary-General's meeting with the Chairperson of the African Union and President of Equatorial Guinea

The Secretary-General met this morning with H. E. Mr. Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, newly elected Chairperson of the African Union and President of Equatorial Guinea, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Secretary-General congratulated the President for his election to the AU Chairmanship and assured him of the continued support of the UN for the African Union.

The Secretary-General highlighted a number of joint AU-UN initiatives on which he hoped to work closely with President Obiang, including the MDG process, the fight against malaria, climate change and sustainability.
