The Secretary-General spoke this morning by telephone with President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria, in his capacity as Chairperson of ECOWAS, regarding the situation in Guinea. The Secretary-General hoped that in the 10 days remaining before the scheduled second round of the Guinean presidential elections, any outstanding issues would be resolved. He congratulated President Jonathan for his direct engagement, together with President Compaoré of Burkina Faso, to ensure that the elections will be held in a peaceful climate.
