Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Joseph Muscat, Prime Minister of the Republic of Malta

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Joseph Muscat, Prime Minister of the Republic of Malta.

The Secretary-General thanked Malta for its support to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, particularly through its key role in the Commonwealth. He expressed his hope for the early entry into force of the Agreement.

The Secretary-General and the Prime Minister discussed the challenges posed by the large movements of migrants and refugees to Europe, and looked forward to the 19 September High-level meeting to be organized by the United Nations on the issue.

The Secretary-General requested Malta’s support for his Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism. They also exchanged views on regional developments including the situation in Libya.
