Secretary-General's press encounter following the mini-summit on Côte d'Ivoire

Press events | Kofi Annan, Former Secretary-General

SG: [Translated for the French] We had a very good meeting. I believe that all the Heads of State spoke very frankly. We developed a programme for now through the end of August. We are going to have a summit meeting in Accra on the 29th of July. In the meantime, we will organize consultations among all the parties to better prepare for this meeting and I believe we have made very good progress here today.

Q: [Translated from the French]: All the parties? That is to say—who will be gathering at the next meeting in Accra?

SG: [Translated from the French] It will be the Heads of State who were here today. Obviously, President Gbagbo and the opposition parties—Les Forces Nouvelles, the G-7.

[Continues in English] I said we've had a very important and a very useful meeting, where we had the chance to review the difficulties and how we move forward. And I think all the leaders left here encouraged, and we have a clear road map as to how to move forward. We will use the next weeks –the summit is set in Accra on the 29th of July. In the meantime, effective preparations will be made in consultation with all concerned so that the Accra meeting will be concrete, constructive and we should be able to leave Accra with sure and real achievements.

Thank you very much.
