Note in response to the Pope's statement on Syria

In response to questions on Pope Francis’s statement on Syria, the Spokesperson had the following to say:

The Secretary-General welcomes the Pope's statement calling for peace based on dialogue and negotiation in Syria, and his call for a day of prayer and fast for Syria.  Such gestures can make an important and helpful contribution.
