Note to Correspondents: Statement from the Office of the Special Envoy for Syria

On 11 August, the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, made a particular appeal for the medical the evacuation of people with urgent needs from the besieged towns of Fouah and Madaya. Today, Mr. de Mistura, therefore welcomes the news of the evacuation of those in need of medical treatment from the besieged areas of these two towns. Up to 36 people were evacuated today by the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) including several children and others needing urgent medical assistance.  The Special Envoy thanks all of those who made this possible. “While this is a positive step, areas remain besieged by parties to the conflict and Syrians are in need of food and medical assistance to enter these areas,” Mr. de Mistura said. Mr. de Mistura reiterated that in some places, such as Madaya and Fouah, no convoys have been allowed to enter for over 110 days, while there are reports of desperate need for food and other assistance in towns such as Darayya. He urged all parties to the conflict to allow humanitarian access and to evacuate those Syrians in need of medical assistance.    بيان لوسائل الإعلام مكتب المبعوث الخاص للأمم المتحدة إلى سوريا، السيد ستيفان دي مستورا   (جنيف 19 اغسطس 2016) – في يوم 11 أغسطس أطلق المبعوث الخاص للأمم المتحدة إلى سوريا، السيد ستيفان دي مستورا،  نداءاً ملحّاً للإجلاء الطبّي لذوي الاحتياجات العاجلة من المدن السورية المحاصرة،  فوعه ومضايا.    لذلك رحّب السيد دي مستورا بالأنباء الواردة اليوم حول إجلاء أولئك الذين يحتاجون إلى العلاج الطبّي من هاتين المنطقتين المحاصرتين.   فقد تم اليوم إجلاء ما يصل الى*36 شخصاً من قبل جمعية الهلال الأحمر العربي السوري بما في ذلك العديد من الأطفال وغيرهم ممّن يحتاجون إلى المساعدات الطبية العاجلة.    يتقدم المبعوث الخاص بالشكر لكل من ساهم في تحقيق ذلك.   وقال السيد دي مستورا: "في حين أن هذه خطوة إيجابية، فلا تزال المناطق محاصرة من قبل أطراف النزاع وما زال السوريون في حاجة إلى دخول المساعدات الغذائية والطبية لهذه المناطق."   أكّد السيد دي مستورا على انه في بعض الأماكن، مثل مضايا وفوعه، لم تتمكن قوافل الإغاثة من الدخول لأكثر من 110 يوماً، في حين أن هناك تقارير عن الحاجة الملّحة  للأغذية والمساعدات الأخرى في مدن مثل دارايا."   يحث المبعوث الخاص جميع أطراف النزاع بالسماح بإدخال المساعدات الإنسانية للمدن المحاصرة وكذلك بإجلاء السوريين الذين يحتاجون إلى المساعدة الطبية.   انتهى
