11 September 2026 – Commemorating twenty-five years since the 9/11 attacks, the Security Council met today to reaffirm that acts of international terrorism constitute one of the most serious threats to international peace and security. The Council adopted a Presidential Statement in which it noted that, “countering this threat requires collective efforts on national, regional and international levels on the basis of respect for international law and the Charter of the United Nations.”

On 23 July 2026, Hungary published the full report on the June 2025 visit conducted by the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) on behalf of the Counter-Terrorism Committee. Pursuant to the relevant resolutions of the Security Council, CTED conducted its first comprehensive visit on behalf of the Committee to Hungary, from 16 to 18 June 2025, to monitor and promote its implementation of Security Council resolutions 1373 (2001), 1624 (2005), 2178 (2014), 2396 (2017), 2462 (2019) and 2482 (2019) and other relevant Council resolutions.

New York– On 30 June 2026, the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), the Hellenic Republic, the Republic of Malta, the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) co-organized a side event on terrorist threats in the maritime domain.
This side event, held on the margins of the fourth United Nations Counter-Terrorism Week, was attended by more than 250 participants from Member States, international and regional organizations, academia, and civil society.
