Joint UN/FATF open briefing on #StopTerrorFinance: Countering the financing of terrorism and depriving terrorist groups, particularly Al-Qaida, ISIL (Da’esh) and their affiliates, from their sources of funding

On Thursday 14 April 2016, the United Nations and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) will hold an open joint briefing on #StopTerrorFinance: Countering the financing of terrorism and depriving terrorist groups, particularly Al-Qaida, ISIL (Da’esh) and their affiliates, from their sources of funding. Chairs are the Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Committee established pursuant to resolution 1373 (2001) together with the Security Council 1267/1989/2253 ISIL (Da’esh) and Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee.

Taking place in Conference room 2 (UN headquarters in New York) from 11:00 a.m. to 06:00 p.m., the briefing will be open to Member and Observer States, members of the media including photographers with valid accreditation, United Nations entities, intergovernmental organizations, specialized agencies, and non-governmental organizations in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council.

The objective of the open briefing is to enable the two Security Council Committees, FATF, and Member States to discuss new and emerging terrorism-financing trends, and to highlight initiatives including with the private sector to help States enhance their information-sharing and thereby strengthen global efforts to prevent and counter terrorism financing.
