CTED co-organizes side event about the future of GIFCT

On September 24, 2019, the UN Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate (CTED) co-organized a side event on the margins of the 74th United Nations General Assembly about countering terrorist exploitation of information and communications technology (ICT). The event, GIFCT UNGA 2019: Future of GIFCT was held in collaboration with the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT), an industry-led initiative founded in 2017 to substantially disrupt terrorists’ ability to promote terrorism, disseminate violent extremist propaganda, and exploit or glorify real-world acts of violence using online platforms. Engaging a range of stakeholders including companies, government, and civil society, this event (i) highlighted milestones and work streams in the GIFCT thus far, (ii) provided updates on its upcoming structural advancements, (iii) shared the concept of the Content Incident Protocol (CIP) for a collaborative response of the industry in case of terrorist attacks, and (iv) had a government partners panel discussion in which CTED participated.
