CTED and OSCE pledge to continue cooperation on counter-terrorism

On the margins of the 69th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, CTED Executive Director Mr. Jean-Paul Laborde on 22 September 2014 met with Mr. Lamberto Zannier, Secretary-General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

Mr. Laborde stressed the excellent cooperation between the Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) and OSCE, in particular the Transnational Threats Department and its Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU), in the area of counter-terrorism. He outlined the current terrorism challenges and tasks for CTED and emphasised the importance of working with regional partners such as OSCE in implementing relevant Security Council resolutions.

Mr. Zannier, on his part, also expressed satisfaction over the cooperative relationship between the two entities. He reiterated the readiness of OSCE to work with CTED on terrorism issues.

The two heads of CTED and OSCE agreed to continue their cooperation, including in the areas of foreign terrorist fighters, countering violent extremism and follow-ups to assessment visits to Member States in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
