The Pool of Experts

Nomination of experts for the Pool of Experts

Any expert wishing to contribute to the Regular Process needs to join the Pool of Experts. The specific list of expertise needed to support the development of an assessment of the state of the marine environment, including socioeconomic aspects, for the fourth cycle of the Regular Process (WOA IV) will be made available in early 2027.

States are encouraged to appoint additional experts, including through their designated National Focal Points, to join the Pool of Experts. Intergovernmental organizations, the funds, bodies and programmes of the United Nations and the secretariats of relevant conventions and intergovernmental processes are also invited to recommend experts for nomination to the Pool of Experts.

Interested individuals with relevant expertise including scientists and holders of traditional, indigenous, and local knowledge, can submit a self-recommendation to the Pool of Expert by completing this application form and sending their CV to the secretariat (doalos@un.org and temnova@un.org).

The profiles of recommended and self-recommended experts will be reviewed by their State of nationality or the Bureau of the Regular Process. Recommended and self-recommended experts will receive confirmation of their inclusion in the Pool of Experts from the secretariat.

Further information can be found in the Mechanism for the establishment of the Pool of Experts of the Regular Process.
