Bratislava, Slovakia, 18 May 2018 – The President of the United Nations General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčák, attended the GLOBSEC 2018 Bratislava Forum in Slovakia from 17 to 18 May 2018. 

 

During his participation in the conference, President Lajčák continuously stressed the importance of strengthening multilateralism.

On his second day at the conference, Mr. Lajčák met with Government representatives and other participants to brief them on his term as President of the General Assembly, including with respect to sustaining peace; the negotiations on the Global Compact on Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration; his planned initiatives on sustainable development; and global peace and security challenges.

In his meeting with Ms. Martina Larkin, Head of Europe and Eurasia of the World Economic Forum, he shared details about his upcoming event on Financing the Sustainable Development Goals on 11 June and stressed the importance of private sector engagement in financing for peace.

He also discussed regional developments and European integration with H.E. Mr. Predrag Bošković, Minister of Defence for Montenegro.

With H.E. Mr. Jacek Czaputowicz, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Poland, Mr. Lajčák discussed Poland’s presidency of the United Nations Security Council for the month of May and the importance of cooperation between the European Union and the United Nations.

Mr. Lajčák spoke about his upcoming Youth Dialogue on 30 May during his meeting with H.E. Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargas, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and H.E. Mr. Suhail Mohamed Faraj Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Industry of the United Arab Emirates. They also discussed current regional developments.

President Lajčák will return to New York on 19 May 2018.
