The President of the 72nd session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčák, met today with H.E. Ms. Hilda C. Heine, President of the Republic of the Marshall Islands. They discussed issues related to the region, sustaining peace, climate change and its adverse impacts on Small Island Developing States, and President Lajčák’s forthcoming high-level event to launch the International Decade for Action on “Water for Sustainable Development.” President Lajčák encouraged the Marshall Islands to engage in his upcoming events on water, youth and non-communicable diseases, and he lauded President Heine for giving political prominence to gender issues.
