On 14 July 2025, the Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and United Nations Legal Counsel, Ms. Elinor Hammarskjöld, attended the opening of the plenary part of the sixty-fourth session of the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf.
In her remarks, the United Nations Legal Counsel highlighted some salient developments at the recent thirty-fifth Meeting of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of relevance to the work of the Commission.
She also officiated the solemn declaration by a newly elected Member of the Commission, Mr. Stig-Morten Knutsen.
Additionally, she paid tribute to the memory of former member of the Commission, Mr. Harald Brekke.
