Urgent Action Needed to Scale-up Energy Access in World’s Poorest Countries

BEIJING, 31 May 2019 – Without urgent and enhanced action, the world’s forty-seven least developed countries will not achieve global sustainable energy targets by 2030. This was the backdrop to discussions which took place over the last two days at a United Nations conference on scaling-up energy access and finance in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in Beijing.

New Managing Director for Technology Bank Welcomed to United Nations

The Technology Bank is the UN’s newest institution and is supporting science, technology and innovation in the world’s poorest countries.

ASTANA, 17 May 2018 – A new declaration that calls for improved transport, promotes economic transformation and better trade has been adopted at a Ministerial meeting of landlocked developing countries in Astana, Kazakhstan today, to better integrate these countries into the global trading system. 

Ministers and senior government officials from the landlocked developing countries (LLDCs) gathered in Astana, Kazakhstan from 16 to 17 of May 2018, for a two-day Ministerial Meeting on Trade and Transport.

LISBON, 2 May 2018 – Winning journalists from the Voices of a Brighter Future journalism competition have arrived in Lisbon to highlight the importance of sustainable energy in their communities. The competition, held by the UN Office of the High Representative for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States, called on journalists from the world’s 47 least developed countries to submit stories about how sustainable energy is affecting communities and individuals in their countries.
