Global Training and Experience-sharing Workshop on the United Nations Fish Stocks Agreement

The Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea of the Office of Legal Affairs of the United Nations (the Division) in cooperation with the United Nations University (UNU) are offering a Global Training and Experience-sharing Workshop on the United Nations Fish Stocks Agreement.

The Workshop will be hosted by the United Nations University and is scheduled to take place in Tokyo, Japan, from 08 to 11 December 2025.  

The Global Training Workshop is implemented though the Division’s project “Project of Assistance to Strengthen Participation in and Implementation of the United Nations Fish Stocks Agreement (UNFSA POA)”, which is funded by the European Union and implemented in coordination with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).   

Purpose and Objective of the Workshop    

The workshop, entitled “Global Training Workshop on the United Nations Fish Stocks Agreement” will increase awareness and understanding of UNFSA amongst key stakeholders, with a view to strengthening implementation of the Agreement. The workshop would include:

  • A general training on UNFSA and the Review Conference, as well as the role of RFMO/As in the implementation of UNFSA;
  • Detailed examinations of specific topics in fisheries management addressed under UNFSA and how they are addressed in RFMO/As, in relevant FAO instruments and at the national level;
  • Interactive discussions on strengthening implementation of UNFSA at regional and national levels.

The key stakeholders targeted include stakeholders in the implementation of UNFSA, focusing on developing States Parties to UNFSA, RFMO/A bureau members and secretariats.
