CBAM: revenues to support LDCs in decarbonisation

17 May 2022.  Today the European Parliament's Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety adopted the report on the regulation establishing a Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). CBAM is seen as a way of preventing "carbon leakage" - that is, the movement of carbon-emitting industries to other countries - as Europe transitions to a lower-carbon economy. 

Review of the EUs GSP regulation

5 November 2021. The European Commission published its proposal for a new Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) from 2024.  The regulation needs to be endorsed by the Parliament and the council through the ordinary legislative procedure.  More information here.  Some of the proposed changes may be relevant for LDCs, particularly graduating LDCs, such as proposed changes in the criteria for eligibility of GSP+.
