Excellencies,Distinguished Guests,Colleagues,Ladies and Gentlemen,
We gather here to mark the completion of our joint work for the first-ever Global Sustainable Transport Conference.
Like other flag lowering ceremonies, this is a sad-sweet moment.
Sweet because our work is done; we should all be proud of what we have accomplished together.
Sustainable transport is now firmly in the sustainable development agenda.
We will remain committed to its advancement, for the present generation and the generations to come.
Sad because we have been working together intensively; and now it is a moment to finish up and to say goodbye.
I led the first planning mission here in June and the Host Government, Turkmenistan, and the UN Secretariat have since embarked on a journey together.
We have travelled thousands of miles together; we have worked and worried together.
But we have also laughed together, because we all know that we share the same destination – sustainable transport for a sustainable future – a future we all want.
Through this journey the UN-Turkmenistan partnership has reached new heights.
For me, this evening is therefore an evening for celebration.
We celebrate what we have achieved together.
And what we have achieved together is of far-reaching significance.
It marks a new landmark in advancing sustainable transport across the world, and a new milestone in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Excellencies,Colleagues,
This is also a moment for looking ahead.
We look forward to Turkmenistan’s continued leadership in following up on the Conference, both regionally, and internationally, at the UN General Assembly.
We salute the national flag of Turkmenistan – a country dedicated to peace, neutrality and sustainable development; and we salute the flag of the United Nations and its vision for a better world for all.
Thank you.
