Every May, NYC-based non-profit Transportation Alternatives organizes the TA Bike Month, a 100% free city-wide cycling (and micromobility) challenge.
Last year, the UN ranked 13th among all participating organizations!
This year, the UNHQ Staff Union’s Micromobility Advocacy Group and the UNSRC Bike Club, with the support of the Permanent Missions of Romania and of Latvia to the United Nations, DMSPC’s Sustainability and Resilience Management Unit, and UNDSS and its Road Safety team, invite the UN community at large to participate, and we’re aiming for a prize!
Don’t wait until 1 May, REGISTER NOW!
Join or create a team under the organization labelled “United Nations”. Your miles and trips will contribute to your team as well as the UN.
- When creating a team, pick a name that is easily recognizable (e.g., “UNICEF”, “DESA”, or “Permanent Mission of [your country]”, etc.).
- Your team may be public (anyone can join), or private (security key will be needed for colleagues to join).
- Track your trips and miles whenever using your device in May. Make sure they’re reflected in your trip log.
- Monitor your own, team’s, and organization’s trips and mileage. Do your best to finish in the Top 3 in any category to win a prize.
Get ready to bike:
- Visit NYC bike map.
- Check how to take your bike on the train, subway, bus, ferry, or tramway.
- Check out NYC bike safety guide.
- Don’t own a bike? Get one for free through the “Bike Match” program (or ride one of NYC’s shared bikes).
- Take a free class to improve your riding skills.
- The UN Bike Parking is located at 48th St. & 1st ave. DC1/DC2 tenants have access to the DC2 bike parking. UNICEF staff can park by UNICEF House.
Take further action:
- Post on social media using the generic hashtag #BikeMonthNYC, and the hashtag #Biking4UN, for members of the UN community.
- Suggest a location for new sidewalk bike parking to the NYC Department of Transportation.
- Join the UN Staff Recreation Council (UNSRC) Bicycle Club to participate in bike rides.
- Join the UNHQ Staff Union’s Micromobility Advocacy Group’s MS Teams channel.
