General Assembly
The General Assembly is one of the six main organs of the United Nations, the only one in which all Member States have equal representation: one nation, one vote. All 193 Member States of the United Nations are represented in this unique forum to discuss and work together on a wide array of international issues covered by the UN Charter.
Security Council Chamber
Under the Charter, the Security Council has primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security. It has 15 Members, and each Member has one vote. Under the Charter, all Member States are obligated to comply with Council decisions.
East River
The East River's embankment at the permanent Headquarters of the United Nations is adjacent to the Conference Area. The walkway overlooking the East River, leads from the Secretariat Building to the North Law, with a view of the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge.
Photo Studio
The Photo Unit documents the work of the United Nations to Maintain International Peace and Security, Protect Human Rights, Deliver Humanitarian Aid, Promote Sustainable Development, and Uphold International Law.
The Photo Studio is available for photo shoots and video interviews, with use of strobes and backdrops. Due to limited space, the studio is better suited for photo shoots.
Rose Garden
The United Nations Rose Garden, a gift from All-America Rose Sections, Inc., has over 1,500 rose bushes. The garden is open to the public and is located off the Visitor's concourse, behind the General Assembly Building.
TV Studio
The News Services Section provides breaking news coverage of developments around the UN system and manages the UN News Centre, the Organization’s main news portal that offers quick access to a range of news-related products and resources.
Formal studio interviews can be scheduled in the UN Broadcasting Studio located in the first basement. Upon request theirprofessional quality video cameras, lighting, and selected projected backdrops are able to be utilized for select interviews.
2nd Floor
On the second floor, outside the Economic and Social Council Chamber there is a space where delegates informally meet. The glass west wall of this space overlooks the flag lined delegates entrance with an iconic New York City view highlighting the Chrysler building.
2nd Floor Flag Hall
Second floor hallway at UN headquarters which is lined by Members States' flags and connects the Conference Building with the General Assembly Building.
Outside Secretariat Entrance
The flags of the 193 United Nations Member States provide a colourful, 500-foot wide curved approach to the Headquarters, along United Nations Plaza. The circular pool in front of the Secretariat Building, with a fountain in its centre, was built with a $50,000 gift from the children of the United States. The wavy pattern on the floor of the pool is formed by alternating bands of crushed white marble and black pebbles. The black stones were gathered from the beaches of Rhodes by the women and children of that Greek island, and donated to the United Nations.
ECOSOC
The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is the United Nations’ central platform for reflection, debate, and innovative thinking on sustainable development. A gift from Sweden, originally designed by the Swedish architect Svem Markelius. Renovated in 2013, the Chamber features the new curtain ‘Diaologos’ by Ann Edholm.
