UNTERM, the multilingual database for official United Nations terminology developed by the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management, has been upgraded!

UNTERM was created to support the provision of high-quality language services for the intergovernmental meetings of the United Nations and features hundreds of thousands of terms, including official country names, phraseology, and a collection of geographical and proper names.

It also functions as a terminology management system that enables collaborative creation and updating of terminology.

Over the years, the UNTERM portal has expanded. It now incorporates the terminology of four UN duty stations of DGACM (New York, Geneva, Vienna, and Nairobi), the United Nations regional commissions, and UN specialized agencies such as IMO, ITU, WHO, WMO and UNESCO.

This takes UNTERM one step closer to becoming the “go-to” portal for official terminology in the United Nations system.

The redesigned portal has been translated into the six official languages and has added multilingual accessibility features that enable screen readers to detect the language of each term in a record.

New functions were also introduced that allow you to customize results by searching in specific collections of records managed by different entities based on their areas of specialization (known as "datasets") or searching for records that are related to specific bodies or subjects.

Communication features were also expanded with the addition of a "share record" option and a more comprehensive feedback form that you can use to suggest changes or additions to a record.

Under "Resources", a download option generates a downloadable list of all country names records in real-time, to always ensure the most up-to-date version.
