Excitement is building across the UN community as the Opening Ceremony of the United Nations Games 2025 approaches. Scheduled for Wednesday, 2 April at 4:00 PM in Conference Room 4, the event will mark the official launch of the second edition of the Games—bringing together diplomats, UN personnel, and their families for a month-long celebration of sport, unity, and international friendship.
Held under the mandate of General Assembly resolution A/RES/78/325, the United Nations Games aim to strengthen solidarity and well-being among Permanent Missions and UN agencies through the power of sport. Building on the success of the inaugural Games in 2024, this year’s edition features 11 disciplines and expanded participation from across the UN system.
The Opening Ceremony will include:
- Welcoming remarks by the UN Games Organizing Committee.
- Keynote speeches from Turkmenistan as a Chair of UN Games Organizing Committee, Qatar & Monaco as Co-Chairs of the Group of Friends of Sport for Sustainable Development
- Special appearances by Albert Pujols and Manny Pacquiao, UN Games Ambassadors and legendary athletes
- Addresses by members of the international diplomatic community
- The Athlete’s Oath and the formal declaration of the Games Opening!
