The Resident Coordinators represent the Secretary-General at the country level. They lead the work of UN country teams, mobilizing the UN system's expertise and resources to support national initiatives to accelerate the SDGs.
Under their leadership, UN teams deliver results that leave no one behind, in line with the priorities of the Secretary-General. Here are some updates of their work on the ground:
Botswana, Burundi, Djibouti, Madagascar and Mauritius: Powering Africa with Sustainable Energy
The Resident Coordinator system in Africa is working to address the energy access gap, with initiatives like "Mission 300" aiming to connect millions to electricity by 2030. The focus is on renewable energy sources, with Africa leading the way.
Mongolia: Bridging the Digital Divide
The Resident Coordinator leads the UN in Mongolia to support the government's digital transformation of the country, boosting digital literacy and expanding access to public services to marginalized communities, including nomadic herders.
Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines: Harnessing Innovation
In Asia, UN country teams use AI-powered tools to advance gender equality. In the Philippines, an AI chatbot supports women entrepreneurs while the “SoSafe” platform supports vulnerable women in Thailand. Indonesia is leveraging AI to facilitate inclusive village decision-making.
North Macedonia: Building a Sustainable Future
In North Macedonia, the Resident Coordinator led the UN team in supporting national initiatives to launch the first National Development Strategy to accelerate the country’s sustainable, inclusive development.
Viet Nam: Closing the Learning Gap
In Viet Nam, the UN’s joint efforts ensure access to inclusive and equitable education for all, empowering girls, supporting students with disabilities, and investing in teachers. This work helps close the learning gap and build a brighter future for Vietnamese children.
Worldwide: Women Resident Coordinators in Multilateralism
In January, we marked the International Day of Women in Multilateralism by showcasing the 62 women Resident Coordinators, who are leading more than half of our UN country teams (see video above).
