Every year, the Uniformed Capabilities Support Division processes approximately two billion dollars of claims and reimbursements. Payments are made to troop and police-contributing countries for their services in peacekeeping missions and include reimbursements related to contingent-owned equipment, self-sustainment, hostile damage claims, and death and disability, amongst many others.

Although the payment system was recently revamped as part of the Uniformed Capabilities Management system deployment (part of the Umoja Extension 2 programme), communications with the troop and police-contributing countries were still siloed. It was limited to emails, phone calls, etc.

To streamline communications, the Uniformed Capabilities Support Division (UCSD) launched the Member States Portal for Uniformed Capabilities Support in March, providing Member States secure access to claims, reimbursements, MoUs, Verification Reports, and other information related to their deployments in peace operations.

“With the portal in place, Member States can now access up-to-date information whenever they need it, with a click of a button,” said Michael M. Kitivi, Director, UCSD. “We are already working to enhance the portal with added functionalities such as data analytics and a repository of historical information from legacy systems.”

For example, a repository of relevant training, policies, and procedures will be added to the portal soon.

“The launch of this portal is another important step forward in our continued effort to simplify our processes, improve our efficiency, and enhance client service,” explained Christian Saunders, Assistant Secretary-General for Supply Chain Management.  “The portal is aligned to the Secretary-General’s Data Strategy and will provide greater visibility over uniformed capabilities support processes.”

“We believe that this will have a transformative effect on all aspects of the process, not only for us, but more importantly, for our troop and police-contributing countries,” he said.

The portal was successfully launched thanks to support from the Enterprise Resource Planning Solution Division and the Capacity Development and Operational Training Service, which developed training and conducted sessions with Member States.

The Uniformed Capabilities Support Division (UCSD) is part of the Office of Supply Chain Management (OSCM) in the Department of Operational Support.
