2025 marks ten years since the adoption of Security Council Resolution 2250, a landmark recognition of the essential role that young people play in building and sustaining peace.

Throughout the year, regional dialogues, national consultations, civil society initiatives and thematic discussions have gathered diverse stakeholders to reflect on progress, challenges and emerging priorities across the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) agenda. These engagements have generated a wide range of insights — from community-level experiences in conflict-affected settings to regional policy analysis, national implementation efforts and youth-led advocacy.

To bring this collective knowledge together, the UN Youth Office, the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with the support of Member States, will convene a High-Level Stocktaking Event on 15 December 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. EST, in the Trusteeship Council Chamber at UN Headquarters, with hybrid participation available.

The event will:

  • Mark the 10th anniversary of Resolution 2250 and recognize the leadership of young peacebuilders worldwide
  • Synthesize key findings and recommendations from regional, national and civil society engagements
  • Share lessons learned and good practices from Member States implementing National Action Plans
  • Identify priorities and practical next steps for strengthening Youth, Peace and Security across the UN system
  • Encourage renewed political commitment to advance the YPS agenda in the decade ahead

As the culmination of the anniversary year, the event will reflect a shared vision shaped by young people, governments, regional organizations and civil society partners.
