Paul Hunt is the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to the highest attainable standard of health. He is a Professor at the Department of Law, University of Essex, United Kingdom, and Adjunct Professor at the University of Waikato, New Zealand. He was Director of the Human Rights Centre at Essex University from 2001 to 2003. From 1999 to 2002, Prof. Hunt was an independent expert on the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, where he also served as Committee Rapporteur. He has published widely on human rights issues, focusing particularly on economic, social and cultural rights.

Malaria is an extremely serious human rights issue. Six out of eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) cannot be achieved without tackling this disease. It is both a cause and a consequence of poverty. Its impact is especially ferocious on the poorest: those least able to afford preventive measures and medical treatment.
