Tenth coordination meeting on international migration

New York

Date:
09 February 2012 to 10 February 2012

Overview

The Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations is organizing the Tenth Coordination Meeting on International Migration. The meeting is being held in response to General Assembly resolution 58/208 of 13 February 2004, which requests the Secretary-General to continue convening meetings to coordinate international migration activities.

The tenth coordination meeting has the following three objectives. First, pursuant to resolution 65/170, the meeting will discuss the contributions of relevant entities of the United Nations system and other organizations to the preparations of the High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development, which will be organized by the General Assembly during its sixty-eighth session in 2013. Second, the meeting will examine the cooperation between international organizations and the 2011 and 2012 editions of the Global Forum on Migration and Development. Third, the meeting will allow international organizations to exchange information on current activities and to present major new initiatives in the area of international migration.

By bringing together entities of the United Nations system, other relevant intergovernmental organizations and civil society, the coordination meeting provides a unique opportunity to enhance interagency coherence, in particular in responding to the growing demand from Member States for activities and support on issues relating to multidimensional aspects of international migration and development.
The outcomes of the meeting will contribute to the report of the Secretary-General on international migration and development for the sixty-seventh session of the General Assembly.
