Call for civil society feedback on UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy

In 2020, the General Assembly of the United Nations will undertake the 7th biennial review of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy (A/RES/60/288) during which it will consider providing updated guidance related to the Strategy. In preparation for this review, the Secretary-General, as mandated by resolution 72/284, will provide to the General Assembly a report on progress made in the implementation of the Strategy, including suggestions for its future implementation by the United Nations system, as well as on progress made in the implementation of the said resolution.

In adopting the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, the General Assembly decided to further encourage non-governmental organizations and civil society to engage, as appropriate, on how to enhance efforts to implement the Strategy. Resolution 72/284 further encouraged civil society, including non-governmental organizations, to engage, as appropriate, in efforts to enhance the implementation of the Strategy, including through interaction with Member States and the United Nations system, and encouraged Member States and the Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact entities to enhance engagement with civil society in accordance with their mandates, as appropriate, and to support their role in the implementation of the Strategy.

Accordingly, interested civil society organizations are invited to respond by 8 January 2020 to the questionnaire available under this link to contribute to the reflection of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism in preparing the report of the Secretary-General on the implementation of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy. The feedback received will also inform the ongoing efforts of the Office to enhance its engagement with civil society, in accordance with its mandate, to promote the implementation of the Strategy.
