Partner with the Climate Security Mechanism

Funding

The Climate Security Mechanism (CSM) Joint Programme offers a flexible, inclusive, and efficient pooled funding modality administered by the United Nations Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office (MPTFO). Bilateral funding support is also possible through any CSM entity. As of January 2025, a total of US$ 27 million out of US$ 52.4 million had been mobilized by the CSM since the inception of the first phase of its work in late 2018. The CSM Joint Programme has been supported by generous contributions from the Governments of Austria, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom through MPTFO. More details, including the status of funding contributions through MPTFO to date, can be found on the MPTFO Partners Gateway.

Partnership and resource mobilization efforts by the CSM and its partners highlight both the needs for expanding presence and for supporting climate, peace and security activities serving an increasing diversity of contexts. To ensure adequate, predictable and flexible resources to sustain and expand work that delivers results set out in its Joint Programme Document, the CSM will continue to strengthen existing partnerships while mobilizing diversified sources of funding, bringing in new partners and maintaining a sizeable donor base. An additional step is to explore opportunities with other potential partners, including by establishing closer models of collaboration with international financial institutions and climate funds.

Expertise

Partners can provide in-kind support through the recruitment, secondment, training or access to a pool of climate, peace and security experts, particularly from the Global South, including by supporting Junior Professional Officers (JPOs) and United Nations Volunteers (UNVs).

To date, the Governments of Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands and Norway have provided in-kind support through Junior Professional Officers.

Collaboration

The CSM seeks partners to advance policy and advocacy efforts, including by co-generating knowledge, building capacity, catalyzing new work, or convening actors.
