Beware of scams implying association with the first meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the BBNJ Agreement
The Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea of the Office of Legal Affairs of the United Nations has been made aware of fraudulent emails inviting individuals to attend the first meeting of the Conference of the Parties of the BBNJ Agreement as “experts” or “observatory executive participants”. Please be extremely vigilant when receiving such communications, as DOALOS is not proactively reaching out to individuals to request their participation. Such scams may seek to obtain money and/or personal details from the recipients of such correspondence.
Official communicationsare sent out from doalos@un.org or, in some cases, from United Nations staff members’ email addresses ending in un.org. Emails sent from other platforms, in particular free platforms such as Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail etc. using the name of DOALOS, the BBNJ Secretariat or the United Nations are not legitimate, and we strongly advise recipients to ignore and delete such emails, and to avoid clicking on links or opening attachments contained in such emails. When in doubt about the origin of any communication, please write to doalos@un.org to verify its authenticity.
Information about credentials, registration and participation in the Conference of the Parties is available here.
The United Nations does not charge any fees for participation in its conferences, meetings and events. Please remain vigilant if you are asked to make a payment to participate in the meetings of the Conference of the Parties to the BBNJ Agreement.
