High-level Meetings of the 68th Session of the General Assembly
Nuclear Disarmament, 26 September 2013
All Member States were invited to participate at the highest political level in the High-Level meeting of the General Assembly on Nuclear Disarmament (read the programme 
) on 26 September 2013.
At its 67th session, the General Assembly decided (resolution A/RES/67/39) to convene a High-Level meeting on nuclear disarmament during the High-Level segment of the 68th session of the General Assembly.
"In deciding to hold a High-Level meeting, Member States emphasized the importance of seeking a safer world for all and achieving peace and security in a world without nuclear weapons. Convinced that nuclear disarmament and the complete elimination of nuclear weapons are essential to remove the danger of nuclear war, the General Assembly recalled the resolve by Heads of State and Government, as contained in the United Nations Millennium Declaration, to strive for the elimination of weapons of mass destruction, particularly nuclear weapons, and to keep all options open for achieving this aim, including the possibility of convening an international conference to identify ways of eliminating nuclear dangers."Mr. Vuk Jeremić, President of the 67th session of the General Assembly (13 May 2013)
Art for Peace Contest
In 2012, children from across the globe participated in the Art for Peace Contest in which they used their artistic talents to "Imagine a World Free of Nuclear Weapons."
Artwork by three of the 12 finalists is depicted here. There were 6,623 entries from children and teens from 92 Member States.
