Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Matteo Renzi, Prime Minister of the Republic of Italy

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Matteo Renzi, Prime Minister of the Republic of Italy. They concurred that the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development laid the foundations of hope for future generations.
The Secretary-General expressed appreciation for Italy’s support to the United Nation’s efforts in Libya.
The Secretary-General expressed his heartfelt concerns about the difficult situation facing many refugees and migrants arriving in Europe, and underlined the importance of a collective response. In this regard, he commended Italy for its leadership in efforts to find common solutions.
The Secretary-General looked forward to his official visit to Italy next month to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Italy’s UN membership as well as the successful hosting of Expo 2015.
