Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Hery Rajaonarimampianina, President of the Republic of Madagascar

The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. Hery Martial Rakotoarimanana Rajaonarimampianina, President of Madagascar.

The Secretary-General expressed the hope that the inauguration of President Rajaonarimampianina would present an opportunity to restore political stability in Madagascar envisioned under the Roadmap. He stressed the need for pursuing political reconciliation and inclusive policies and reforms that would deepen democratic and accountable governance, respect human rights and promote equitable economic recovery.

They also discussed current challenges facing Madagascar, including locust infestation,   plague outbreak and sustainable development. The Secretary-General reassured the President of the United Nations' readiness to support Madagascar towards meeting its governance and development objective
