The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Ivo Josipovic, President of the Republic of Croatia. They discussed climate change as well as the devastating floods that affected the region earlier in the year. Both agreed on the importance of Member States moving toward green economies.
The Secretary-General praised Croatia’s role in the Peacebuilding Commission and also stressed the need for concrete outcomes following the upcoming Peacebuilding review. Both the President and the Secretary-General reaffirmed the importance of the role of women in peacebuilding and in the global community as a whole.
They turned to the situation in the western Balkans, noting the progress made so far as well as the remaining challenges. The President and the Secretary-General concluded by exchanging views on extremism and terrorism, including potential implications for the region and beyond.
