Note to correspondents on the Secretary-General’s phone call with H.E. Mr. Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation

The Secretary-General spoke to President Putin by telephone today from Mexico City. 

The Secretary-General expressed his alarm about the highly volatile situation in eastern Ukraine and underlined that any deepening of the crisis would be profoundly detrimental for all concerned; hence the need for everyone to work to de-escalate the situation.
