Ms. Claudia Mojica of El Salvador - Deputy Special Representative for the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres announced today the appointment of Claudia Mojica of El Salvador as his new Deputy Special Representative in the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia.
Ms. Mojica succeeds Raúl Rosende of Uruguay to whom the Secretary-General is grateful for his important contributions to peace in Colombia.
Ms. Mojica brings to this position over 30 years of experience with the United Nations (UN), in several regions and across the peace and security, human rights and development fields, including in senior leadership roles. Currently serving as UN Resident Coordinator in Argentina since 2022, she previously worked on conflict prevention, resolution and peacebuilding in peace operations in Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Guatemala, and Haiti. She also worked at UN Headquarters in Geneva and New York from where she supported the negotiations that led to Colombia’s 2016 Final Peace Agreement and the establishment of the Verification Mission in Colombia. Ms. Mojica served as Deputy Director of the Americas Division in the UN Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations (2016-2019), and as Resident Representative of the UN Development Programme in Chile (2019-2022).
Ms. Mojica holds a master’s degree in international relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, in the United States. In addition to her native Spanish, she is fluent in English, French, and Haitian Creole.
