The Secretary-General met with H.E. Ms. Penny Wong, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Australia. He thanked Australia for its consistent support to the UN and for championing multilateralism.

The Secretary-General and the Minister for Foreign Affairs discussed UN peacebuilding, including Australia’s upcoming membership of the UN Peacebuilding Commission in 2025-2026. They also discussed the threats posed by climate change to the Pacific region through sea-level rise and extreme weather events.

The Secretary-General expressed the continued commitment of the United Nations to working closely with Australia on climate action. They also exchanged views on other global issues, including the situation in the Middle East.
