Note to correspondents – Secretary-General in Haiti

Notes to correspondents

Secretary-General António Guterres has just landed in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He is in the country to express solidarity with the Haitian people, who are going through a tragic cycle of security, political and humanitarian crises.

During his visit, the Secretary-General will meet with Prime Minister Ariel Henry and will hear from leaders of various political parties, the High Transitional Council, members of civil society and UN staff.

While in Port-au-Prince, the Secretary-General will reiterate the UN’s support for Haiti, his strong appeal for the international community to continue to support Haiti and its humanitarian needs, as well as his call for the immediate deployment of an international force to assist the Haitian National Police. He will also underscore the need for a Haitian-led, inclusive political pathway towards elections and the return of constitutional order in Haiti.
