Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Úmaro Sissoco Embaló, President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau

The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. Úmaro Sissoco Embaló, President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau and Chair of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government. The Secretary-General and the President discussed recent developments in West Africa, including political transitions and efforts to address regional peace and security challenges. The Secretary-General and the President further discussed the situation in Guinea-Bissau, including ongoing socio-economic recovery efforts post COVID-19. The Secretary-General reaffirmed the commitment of the United Nations to continue supporting Guinea-Bissau’s peacebuilding and sustainable development priorities as well as broader regional peace and stability efforts
