This afternoon, in Lisbon, the Secretary-General held a brief stakeout; this is how he responded to a question on Ukraine and the UN efforts regarding the world food insecurity situation:
 
Secretary-General: We are very concerned about the situation in Ukraine and, on the other hand, we are making a great effort to try to solve, or help to solve, the problem of food security, which is absolutely dramatic. And therefore, there have been intense contacts, both with the Ukrainians, both with the Russians and the Turks, and on the other hand, with the United States and the European Union, in order to facilitate the safe and secure export of Ukrainian food products in the Black Sea and at the same time exports of Russian cereals and fertilizers, which are indispensable.

Secretário-gerall: Estamos muito preocupados com a situação na Ucrânia e, por outro lado estamos a fazer um grande esforço no sentido de tentar resolver, ou ajudar a resolver o problema da segurança alimentar, que é absolutamente dramático, e é por isso que tem havido intensos contactos, quer com os ucranianos, quer com os russos, quer com os turcos, e por outro lado, com os Estados Unidos e com a União Europeia, no sentido de facilitar a exportação dos produtos alimentares ucranianos sem perigo e de uma forma segura no mar Negro, e ao mesmo tempo as exportações dos cereais e fertilizantes russos, que são indispensáveis.
