The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana. They discussed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of vaccine equity and solidarity, and Ghana’s advocacy for implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The President, in his capacity as the Chair of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, updated the Secretary-General on ECOWAS’ efforts to address a wide range of peace and security challenges in the subregion, including the political transitions in Guinea and Mali. The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for the cooperation between Ghana and the United Nations, commended Ghana’s regional leadership role as well as reaffirmed the solidarity of the United Nations to Ghana and ECOWAS.
